Because Results Matter

Achieve A Glamorous Glow In Time For The Holidays

Holiday season is just a few weeks away but not to worry there is still plenty of time to kick your skin care regimen into high gear so you can have glowing radiant skin in time for the season’s social calendar. Regardless of age or skin type a great starting point in your pursuit of luminous skin is to begin with a facial. Don’t have just any facial treatment though; we recommend a medical grade oxygen facial which infuses the skin with a continuous flow of 95% pure oxygen leaving your face feeling fresh and revived. The purpose of an oxygen facial is to decongest the pores by removing toxins and impurities while evening the skin’s tone and texture. The result is brighter, tighter and smoother skin!

With thanksgiving just 2 days away it’s important not to pull any punches so you may want to consider amping up your vitamin regimen by adding some key supplements to enhance your skin. Grape seed, bilberry and green tea extracts are all rich in anti-oxidants and will protect you from sun damage and loss of elasticity keeping your skin tight and youthful. Chlorophyll is a potent leafy green-blue algae available in capsule and liquid form that supports lymphatic drainage-reducing puffiness while oxygenating the skin. Fish oil is also available in liquid and capsule form and has been proven to promote collagen production in addition to regulating the skin’s moisture production. Now is also a great time to increase your vitamin B intake to improve the function of the epidermis resulting in smoother, softer and healthier skin.

If fine lines, wrinkles, enlarged pores, redness or scarring are a concern then you will definitely want to consider squeezing in a session or two of laser genesis. This procedure which is performed with a YAG laser is fast, painless and yields dramatic results by gently heating the dermis to stimulate collagen production. It is extremely popular among both men and women and is a surefire way to promote youthful looking skin. The best part about this laser treatment is that the results are immediate and there is no downtime at all.

Your final step in ensuring a brilliant complexion in time for this holidays is to keep up with your homework! It is crucial that you exfoliate at least once daily to effectively remove the dead skin cells from your pores. Always remember to apply moisturizer in the morning and a heavier cream at night time. Toners and serums are also excellent for targeting conditions specific to your skin. If you have any questions our team of physicians and aestheticians are always available to answer them for you.

Shift Your Skin Care Regimen Into High Gear

With the winter months fast approaching; New Yorker’s need to be as mindful of winter weather advisories as they do skin care advisories- and the experts at Skintology Cosmedical Aesthetics have just issued one! Dry, flaky, itchy, dull winter skin forms as the temperatures drop and the air loses its humidity. Fortunately, by following these helpful skin care tips you can maintain healthy, supple, glowing skin through the harshest winter conditions.

1. Exfoliate Your Skin-Gentle exfoliations are crucial in the winter months to ensure dead skin cells are removed and the skin is properly prepared to absorb essential skin care products.

2. Hydrating Serum-Applying a hydrating serum is crucial during the winter months. Serums are more effective than moisturizers because the penetrate deeper into skin

4. Moisturize-After applying your serum it is important to lock it in with a moisturizer. A common misconception is to use a heavy moisturizer in the winter months. Heavy oily moisturizers sit on the surface of your skin, look greasy and don’t absorb any better than a lighter alternative.

5. Diet-Adding foods rich in Omega-3 fatty acids such as salmon, avocado, ground flaxseed, walnuts, soybeans and olive oil will hydrate and nourish your skin from the inside out.

6. Avoid Hot Baths and Showers-While it is tempting to long soothing hot baths and showers in the winter months this will only dry out your skin even more depleting your skin of essential vitamins and oils.

7. Use a Humidifier-Heating systems used to warm our homes make the air extremely dry. Using a humidifier will add moisture back into the atmosphere preventing your skin from drying out.

8. Drink Water-Even though you may not be thirsty it is important to closely monitor your water intake in the winter months. Staying hydrated will ensure your skin stays hydrated as well.

Rediscover Your Natural Glow With Chemical Peeling

Autumn is chemical peel season and if you are among the likes of the thousands of New Yorker’s who have already scheduled their routine peel regimen this fall your skin will thank you! The semi-annual chemical peel is paramount to any proper skin care regimen providing an opportunity to identify and correct troublesome areas in a painless and non-invasive way. Recommended for men and women between the ages of 28 and 68 chemical peels can treat a variety of skin conditions targeting the face, neck, hands and back.

Tone Your Skin

If you are in your teens or late sixties everyone strives to improve skin clarity and texture.  Dark spots and areas of discoloration whether from sun damage or hyper-pigmentation can wreak havoc on your complexion. A chemical peel will remove the top layers of your skin to effectively even your skin tone while promoting the regeneration of healthy new skin cells to leave you glowing!

Reduce The Signs of Aging

Irrespective of which peel is recommended for your individual needs all treatments provide deep exfoliation to allow your skin to absorb vitamins. This process causes the pores to shrink and tighten reviving your skin’s youthful appearance. With deeper chemical peels the skin is stimulated at the dermal level increasing collagen and elastin production which over time will dramatically reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

Clear Acne and Acne Scarring

Chemical peels provide unparalleled results when treating superficial acne through deep exfoliation. The exfoliation process causes the cells to reproduce more rapidly than they ordinarily would speeding up the natural regeneration process of the skin cells. This prevents pores from clogging and also targets acne scars as old unhealthy skin is shed and new heathy layers of skin form to replace the old ones!

Light, medium and deep chemical peels are available containing either Alpha Hydroxy Acids, Trichloroacetic Acids or Phenol. It is important prior to having any chemical peel to take extensive precautions by spot testing the skin and identifying potential allergies and or interactions. Prior to having any chemical peels it is recommended to make sure the procedure is performed by experienced technicians and medical staff. If  you haven’t already contact Skintology Midtown at 212-832-2225 or Skintology Chelsea at 212-989-6555 to learn more about chemical peels.

Is Kybella® Right For Me?

If your double chin is causing you distress just know you are not alone! A recent study conducted by the American Society of Dermatologic Surgery revealed 67 percent of the population is dissatisfied with submental fat affecting the chin and neck areas. Unfortunately, this type of fat is very stubborn and often does not respond to diet and exercise. Traditionally, submental fat was treated with liposuction; an unlikely option for those looking to avoid the potential risks associated with surgery and anesthesia.

Kybella, which was launched in early 2015 by Allergen the makers of Botox is a revolutionary non-invasive procedure that eliminates submental fat quickly and painlessly. Kybella contains deoxycholic acid, a naturally occurring bile acid produced by the liver to aid in the digestion of fat. Once injected into the affected area it will permanently destroy the fat cells causing your double chin to melt away!

At Skintology Cosmedical Aesthetics our expert physicians have undergone extensive training to perform Kybella. The procedure involves placing a temporary grid marker on your chin as a guide to deliver multiple injections. The procedure is very straightforward and will last no more than 30 minutes. We have found most patients require 2 to 3 treatments and will experience dramatic results within 8 weeks.

When considering Kybella it is important to fully understand the side effects associated with the procedure which include swelling, bruising, redness and discomfort. At Skintology we recommend all of our patients plan their schedules to allow for some downtime after the procedure. If you are interested in Kybella to eliminate your double chin call us for more information.

CryoTherapy: The Healing Alternative

“Healthcare is not what it used to be!” An aging society among other stresses taxing the medical sector has led to dwindling capacity in our healthcare system making it impossible for physicians in the United States to deliver the level of individualized care we were once accustomed to. Today, it is not uncommon for physicians to administer excessive regimens of prescription drugs that effectively treat symptoms but neglect to address the underlying condition. It is a shame because the human body has amazing healing properties and a properly supported immune system can cure a vast number of medical conditions.

CryoTherapy which involves exposing the body to very low temperatures (-300° F) has been proven by researchers and scientists alike to activate the body’s immune response offering a myriad of health benefits. At Skintology we offer 3 different Cryo Therapy delivery systems:

•Cryo Sauna-The Cryo Sauna is a whole body chamber that delivers treatment to from the neck down. Sessions last about 3 minutes. This is our most popular option!

•Cryo Localized Therapy-Localized cryotherapy is administered by to problem areas and treatments can last up to 30 minutes. Localized Cryo is often used to perform Cryo Facials which improve the flow of blood to the face and minimize pore size resulting in an unbelievable glow!

•Cryo Compression Therapy-Cryo Compression Therapy involves wearing compression gear and is primarily performed to promote lymphatic drainage. Cryo Compression Therapy sessions last for approximately 1 hour

CryoTherapy improves circulation, lymphatic drainage, energy and overall endurance by reducing muscle soreness, pain, delayed onset muscle soreness, fatigue and inflammation.  The result is effective treatment of autoimmune and inflammatory disorders which include:

•Fibromyalgia

•Osteoporosis

•Chronic Fatigue Syndrome

•Rheumatoid Arthritis

•Osteoarthritis

•Depression and Mood Disorders

•Multiple Sclerosis (MS)

•Chronic Pain Syndrome

•Inflammation of the tendons and joins

•Inflammation of the spine

In addition to having extensive healing properties CryoTherapy is excellent for healthy people as well with various health and beauty benefits including:

•Tighter and Healthier Skin

•Improved Surgical Recovery

Micro-Needling: The Secret To Flawless Skin

Anti-aging procedures such as injectables, laser treatments, chemical peels and microdermabrasion have become ubiquitous in the non-surgical rejuvenation arena. However, unlike these alternative treatments micro-needling has been around for more than 15 years and is one of the most cost effective procedures available to patients looking to achieve healthy radiant youthful looking skin.

At Skintology Cosmedical Aesthetics all micro-needling is performed by highly trained aestheticians under direct medical supervision. We first numb the site with a topical cream to ensure our patients do not experience any discomfort. A medical device called a derma pen is used to make thousands of needle punctures in the outermost layer of the skin. These punctures create “micro injuries” which triggers a collagen production response that prompting the body to send collagen to the epidermis. This increase in collagen production has been proven to effectively treat stretch marks, fine lines, acne scars, enlarged pores, burns and even brown spots.

Micro-needling is typically administered in conjunction with a liquid treatment such as a serum or PRP (Vampire Filler-link to http://www.skintologyny.com/vampire-filler).  The small punctures made in the skin enable serums to better penetrate the skin further improving the effectiveness of the procedure.

Don’t Sweat It!

The calendar may say September but in New York it still feels like the dog days of summer. While sweating is a normal bodily function and a healthy reaction to rising temperatures many of us actually produce too much sweat; the result of a common condition called Hyperhidrosis.

Hyperhidrosis affects millions of Americans and can either be generalized or localized to specific parts of the body. While in no way dangerous hyperhidrosis can be quite uncomfortable both physically and psychologically. Let’s face it there is no worse buzzkill then a sweat soaked shirt! Fortunately, at Skintology our team of expert physicians are trained to effectively treat Hyperhidrosis safely and effectively with injectable neurotoxins.

Botox, Dysport and Xeomin are all effective at treating hyperhidrosis and because these pharmaceuticals are injected locally they do not have any widespread side effects. Hyperhidrosis treatment typically takes just twenty minutes and will effectively stop sweating for four to twelve months. For more information or to schedule a complimentary consultation call either of our convenient locations at 212-832-2225 (midtown) or 212-989-6555 (chelsea) and speak with our friendly staff!

Scar Removal Without The Lasers

For some, laser scar removal is not an option due to the type of scar they have, their skin type, or the fact that they don’t want to undergo invasive laser procedures with prolonged downtime. For these people, Skintology has a solution! Clients looking to remove a facial or body scar without undergoing laser treatment have the option of doing micropigmentation, a treatment that camouflages the scar to match the clients exact skin tone.

Medical micropigmentation involves inserting small particles of natural pigment under the skin to bring about an aesthetic tattoo which will conceal the scar. Before the procedure, a topical or local anesthesia is used to prevent any pain or discomfort during the procedure. After selecting the accurate pigment, the technician measures and outlines the area to be reconstructed. When the pigmentation is first applied it will seem darker than the natural skin tone. This will fade slightly over time, resulting in a natural look. This procedure breaks up the scar tissue and color it to better match your natural skin tone provides amazing results.

Most patients enjoy little to no downtime and resume all normal activities within 24 hours. Topical antibiotic ointment is used for a few days. You may also be asked to avoid applying make-up and direct sunlight for a few days. Some patients may experience a slight swelling in the area. This will subside with the use of a cool compress. You will be required to come back for a follow-up appointment and subsequent treatments before full skin tone matching is complete. Your technician can give you a better idea of how many treatments you will need after evaluating the scar.
Micropigmentation is a great alternative for those unable or unwilling to do laser treatments. It’s also a great solution for clients with Vitiligo.
